JLCC x PLCC IC packages

Dear friends,
I have an EPROM IC which package is JLCC (J-lead chip carrier), but my EPROM programmer only accepts PLCC (plastic lead chip carrier) sockets. I do not know if there is compatibility between these standards and I am afraid to damage the IC. So I ask: what is the main difference between a JLCC IC package and a PLCC one?

You can get ZIF (0 insertion force ) socket from <

and build an adapter or buy one
( search for programming adapters )

The pin-out may be the same or different -- get the data sheet and compare them.

I don't think there is any difference. It used to be a little scary when the L stood for leadless in ceramic packages. As far as I am concerned all PLLL's have either J leads or gull wing.

Rather than take a swag, review the package drawing for your part, and the programmers' socket (should be in the documentation for it or available from the manufacturer).

You can also go to JEDEC.org and get the standards (if you can identify them...).
