I am going to a job interview on Thursday. The open positions deal with controls in a steel pipe fittings, couplings, and hangars manufacturer.

I have only cursory experience with PLC's (reading about them)

What are the best sources on the web, or what books should I look for in the library to learn more about PLC's?
What type of PLC's are likely to be used in manufacturing steel parts?

Thank you.

Thanks. These websites should help.

Be honest a tell them that you have no knowledge other than textbook in the subject, but you are willing to learn. The person that hires you will then be willing to train you. If not, how can will you do the work if you do land the job. I know it is hard when you are looking for work.

good luck

Hello oranjeep,

In addition to the suggestions made by others, taking up one or two short/introductory PLC courses would prove invaluable to you irrespective of whether you are succesful with this job application or not.

Best of luck,

Suggestion: Very simplistic explanation of PLCs is:
1. PLCs were created to absorb auxiliary control relays and their contacts to reduce the volume of control hardware, increase the speed of operation, improve control scheme flexibility in terms of programming the control relays logic within the PLC by a suitable software for PLCs.
2. PLCsdo switching via electronic circuits
3. PLCs have a clock with a certain speed that constantly sends pulses that travel through the PLC logic hardware and "Monitor" the PLC logic status. In case that there was a change in the switching status via the PLC input, the PLC pulse scan changes the logic depending on the PLC internal configuration, which in turn may change status of the PLC output within the PLC output card that controls some object, e.g. light, solenoid, contactor coil, relay coil, small heater, small motor, etc.
