Job situation in the US

I'm just curious how the job situation is looking in the states for civil/structural engineers?

Theres a lot of infrastructure work that needs doing - bridge inspection work etc but is this coming through & what are other areas like? Obviously housing is fairly bust but are there rail/retail/leisure/government (hospitals, schools) etc projects coming through?

Just interested in how all this is treating you guys (and definitely coming to work in the states for a bit at some point, prob not for a few years mind)

Well this engineer just got selected as part of another round of cost reductions. Some areas are likely still active though the infrastructure work you mention will take a while to spool up depending on how quickly the congress decides to do things. The coasts will likely see recovery the fastest and then it trickles inland from there. Right now, being in Michigan hurts.

I'm located in PA. We do every type of building category there is.. K12, college/university, government, retail/commercial, residential.

We are busier than we have ever been and most of the projects are K12 or university projects.

I am also located in PA. We do buildings (mostly high end institutional projects with many top tier architects) and we haven't seen a slow-down yet.

K12 is like a schools construction framework type thing yeh?

Thats quite interesting, in the UK its the buildings sector which has been hit the hardest, thats predominantly due to the housing market collapse though...

Theres a few real big projects here (Crossrail etc) but it does seem theres a shortness of work with funding for various projects drying up, a few people i know have been made redundant & my companies just started doing the official legal stuff (consultations etc) that prelude redundancies.
