Dear all,

can u please help a doctor who has really basic knowledge of Abaqus.

I am running Abaqus 6.8.1 CAE on Windows Vista.

It was working perfectly allright until recently. Nothing new was installed on my computer, no new firewalls etc.

Out of the blue, after I submit a job it never proceeds from submit to run.

The log file says

Abaqus JOB Job-178
Abaqus Version 6.8-1
Socket error: (10060, 'Operation timed out')
Begin Analysis Input File Processor
05/15/10 09:33:47
Run pre.exe

***WARNING: Interactive messaging has been requested for this analysis run, but initialization of the messaging system has failed. Therefore no messages will be sent to Abaqus/CAE for this phase of the analysis.
Abaqus License Manager checked out the following licenses:
Abaqus/Standard checked out 5 tokens.

Any ideas,

Many thanks

This used to happen on our college network from time to time. The job is probably still running (have a look in task manager for 'standard.exe'). If you look in the .sta file it should still be updating as the analysis progresses.

In terms of fixing the problem I can't help much. I guess there's some conflict with Abaqus 6.8-1 and vista. I did find before when working with CAE on a laptop that turning off the wireless adapter fixed the problem though. Strange but true!

This is the same problem i had two months ago with university pc.

I supposed u use abaqus with Flex licensing utility....this work like a network licensing even if it's installed on a single machine, so if any kind of firewall/OSsecuritySystem stop communication, abaqus/CAE can't show what is appening about running.

Try to check if there's something like that.

Like MechIrl said, the job is still running even if u can't see it in CAE: if u can't fix the problem, u can open .odb when the analysis is finished by setting appropriate working directory in abaqus/CAE.

Anyway, i suggest you to install abaqus over Linux distro...it's easier to control firewall/OSintrusion and use much less ram (it's better to keep ram for abaqus, instead of use it for OS).

Fabio

PS: sorry for my really bad english :)

Guys,

thank you lots! You saved me, as I had not realized the jobs were still running!!!

Good news.

Thanks a lot.
