From time to time, some of you describe yourselves as “Jobbing Electricians” or “Jobbing Engineers”. Does this mean that you are self-employed and move across the US from project to project? It is a job title that has not crossed the Atlantic.

Hi Walden,

I Can help you with the Jobbin term:

1. Doing chance work or add jobs.

2. Using opportunities of public service for private gain; as, a jobbing politician.

In your case .I think the first is the right.

Regards

Petronila.

In my haste to send the original post I wrote "Jobbing" when I should have written "Journeyman".

A journeyman has completed his basic training and has a certificate attesting to this. It is the qualification held by most electricians. In many jurisdictions there is an advanced "Master electrician certificate.". A company may desire a master electrician for a supervisory position. In some jurisdictions a masters ticket is required for permit applications above a certain size. Masters tickets are not available in all jurisdictions.
