We just went up to NX12.0.1.7 and I was wondering what will be replacing Join Face (Legacy)?

We create large sheet bodies with multiple surfaces, and before I use thicken to create a solid, I would use join face to clean up the surfaces. So I can't use combined and delete face may change the results I'm trying to achieve.

There is function called "sew" surface to join two or more surfaces into one. Sometimes when I import some geometry from step, I receive multiple surfaces, so I use sew to join every single surface into solid body. You don't have to use thickness on surface to create solid body. When there are holes I create missing surface by NX tools.
I use join face to remove split on cylindrical faces like some software do in geometry (for example Catia, Solid Works, etc.). If this doesn't work there is always another way - in synchronous modeling "optimize face", but it remove parameters from geometry.

With best regards
Michael

The good old feature Join faces has the history of only joining faces of the same math, which is exactly the situation that Niedzviedz mentions, 2 faces on cylinders / holes etc.
( or triangular faces from Autodesk)

Maybe Optimize Face is the intended replacement. ( it was the only feature that did the trick on my test.)
Delete Edge , which seemed a logical choice , did not work in my test.

Tomas

The problem with Optimize Face is that it removes parameters, so you can't go back and edit surfaces if need.

Yes, but if You have geometry from step file, You don't have history. You can always extract this face / surface if You need it. You can also try delete face or replace face.

Right now I don't have a possibility to check NX 12, but if they removing this function - join face, it will be a pity. I often use it to join imported step files, because NX has a huge problem with this half circle, when You create drawing and try to place section on it. You receive an error.

With best regards
Michael

I do the optimize face command right after cleaning up an imported step file. Before I start doing an work on it.
