When I check joint deflections I usually have to use the select based on criteria button. This works but is very tedious do to the fact that the joints I want to locate are not necessary within a range. The Select lines in current view feature works great for quick member selection! Is there a similar way to select joints in a similar manner?

There are a few tools that may help. Though every user will do this sort of thing a little bit differently.

Selection Tools:
1) The most obvious one is the box select or the box un-select utility.
2) The next choice would be the Coordinate selection options in the criteria select.

Other methods:
3) If this is a selection of joints that you anticipate using again and again, then you might save the selection state so that you can recall it easily in the future.

4) One of the ways that I might approach this is to use the right click menu (from within the graphical view) to Re-Label Selected items. That way, I can assign a different pre-fix to these joints. I sometimes use this to re-label joints or members based on their floor elevation or such. Then I sort the Joint coordinates spreadsheet based on the label. That way it becomes very easy to select or un-select items by either using the spreadsheet selection tools or by using the criteria select.

Josh,

Sorry, I need to rephrase my question. After I run my model I check the deflections in the X,Y & Z directions. For example: When I sort the X direction I want to select (on the model) all nodes say greater than 2" deflection. I do a sort abs max to min and select all joints with deflection of 2" or more. Then I have to type in all of these joints in the select or unselct dialog box.these joints are usually scattered throughout the whole structure so if there is a way to select desired joints in one of the spreadsheats and have those selected joints displayed in the model that would be great. Is there a feature like this? Pretty much identical to the slect marked lines in current view feature for members except for joints.

EIT09 -

Take a look at the Design Results spreadsheet. In that spreadsheet, you can mark some lines within the spreadsheet and use that to select or unselect members in your model view.

Is that the same type of functionality that you're looking for out of the Joint Deflections? RISA doesn't have that ability now. But, it is an excellent suggestion. I'll see if I can get that added into the development schedule.... Maybe for sometime in 2013?

Thanks, that would be a great feature!
