For concrete pavement design, what the the typical spacing for expansion joint and contraction joint?

It will depends on the works youmake. Where I have worked, mainly for car parking use, 6 m or about the spans between columns have been used.

You rarely need expansion joints, so you can go a couple of hundred feet between expansion joints. For control joints, space them at about 30 times the pavement thickness. For example, if the pavement is 6 inches thick, the joint spacing would be 180 inches or about 15 feet. Keep in mind that the jointed area should have a length to width ratio of no more than 1.2:1, so for a 12-foot wide pavement, the joints should not exceed 15 feet as well.
