Journal for assembly components.

Hi,
Can any one help me in regarding issue,
I need a journal to add all assembly components to model reference set. ( My view in asking this is to try something in new way )

But before we again waste a lot of time on this topic you need to answer at least one question:

"What is it that you think using Reference Sets will give you that you can't get using Arrangements?"

And I guess the other question that I would really like to have answered is:

"Why are people all of a sudden so intent on adding Components to Reference Sets when we've been advising against this for years?"

Hi,

Reference sets can be used for next level assemblies where we can call only particular components or set of objects that are required for our next level assembly, where as if we use arrangements we can move the child parts as required but we cannot avoid curves, datum's and sketches not to replicate in the assembly level where the sub assembly is called, so in order to avoid that situation means my reference set contains only bodies and components which I will use them in my next level assembly and also in the assembly I will create same kind of ref set which will be called to next level assembly. I think in arrangements we cannot do this kind of practice, If I am wrong please correct me...

Why are people all of a sudden so intent on adding Components to Reference Sets when we've been advising against this for years?

I think some of the blame has to be laid on the NX UI itself and the option to "add components automatically" when creating a reference set. I was quite surprised the first time I saw that option. The UI makes it quite easy to do what the developers have been advising against.


To those who want to use reference sets to manage components; bear in mind it is not the recommended best practice and you may run into side effects or unintended consequences in the future. But, if you still want to go through with it, create a new reference set and check the option "add components automatically", give it a meaningful name, and close the dialog. You now have a reference set with all components. No programming necessary.
