junction box inspection for corrosion

HI,

Is it necessary/recommended to do visual inspection for instrument junction boxes that are subject to corrosion (corrosive environment)

Yes, as it's simple and easy to do.
And, I thought it's the reason for using the stainless steel junction box to protect the wiring of the instrument and controls. In the corrosive environment or special instrument, the air purge may also be necessary.
 
Cortec and others make Vapor corrosion inhibitors that come in packet, tape and spray forms if you need extra protection.
