Hello,

I wanted to inquire if installation of junction box on grade to extend the existing U/g feeders to a generator system, is a good installation practice or not?

An exterior generator is planned for relocation. Currently three (3) U/g feeders in conduits are run to the generator. The intention is to re-use the existing conduit and feeders, where feasible and install a junction box on grade and connect new U/g feeders and conduits from the new location of the generator to the junction box to complete connectivity.

Is this installation a good practice, or should new feeder and conduits be installed. The existing conductors and feeders are in good shape.

Thank you.

In my opinion, no standard will require to build a new duct bank for the new location. However, this arrangement it is not a good practice.
If it will take more time than you have up to dead line or if it will be very expensive comparing with the total investment, for now, you may put in function in this way as provisory.
