Hello All,

May I know the option to select one of the generated kinematic couplings from bunch of them. right now I am using interaction mode-constraint manager for viewing and editing. I am looking for easy option for selection.

I would appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

You can also use Abaqus Object Manager plug-in. It will let you manage various features of the model, including interactions. It can be downloaded from the Knowledge Base.

Thank you FEA Way. I have one more question for you regarding reference point. I am adding rigid coupling to a shaft end face and reference point in a space. As I want to constraint the reference point to avoid the rotation about shaft axis. shaft is meshed with solid elements and having 3 DOF. what about the DOF available for that reference point, weather 6 DOF or 3 DOF? I am sure that it has 6 DOF but want to make sure once again.

Thank you and have a great week end.

Kind regards,

When defining coupling and selecting "Constrained degrees of freedom" leave default settings (6 DOFs constrained). Then when you apply BC to that point, the number of constrained DOFs depends on the specific case. Is it typical stepped shaft with two bearings ? If yes then you should apply 2 couplings representing these bearings and for the first one fix all DOFs except for axial translation while for the second one fix all DOFs including axial translation. Rotation about the shaft's axis can be blocked at the keyhole instead of doing this at these couplings. But if you want to constrain only the end face for some reason then you will have to fix all DOFs to prevent rigid body motions. However I recommend the first approach.
