kingsoft spreadsheets

The company I work for is trying to get by with using Kingsoft spreadsheets saved in .xls format. However Catia will not read these spreadsheets on systems that have Kingsoft loaded. Does anybody know how to get catia to read these.

We would like to stick with the .xls files as most all of our catalog components already contain excel files.
When I tried to import a text file it gave me an error message that no data was contained in the file or file not found. It did load it in the tree and when I go through edit table everything is there. This is the same message I get with the excel docs.
