Can I take KYZ pulses from a meter and convert it to DNP?
If so how can I do it?

Thank you

KYZ pulses are just that - pulses - contact closures. You have to count the pulses somehow. Once you have a count, you can transmit the count via DNP, or any other protocol.

Don't really know exactly what you mean. Many devices are designed to take the pulses and convert them to useable data, whether it is DNP or another protocol. Are you trying to get them into a scada master? If so then the scada vendor will have an rtu for that purpose.

You are certainly going to need a device with some smarts to do the job.

Maybe you can share some more input on what you are intending.

David and Alan thank you for your input.

What i have is a Ruggedcom RS910 terminal server. It takes serial fiber inputs and convert it to Ethernet signals and directly shoots it to the scada master. The RS910 device talks DNP.So i need some kind of device that will convert the KYZ pulses to DNP.

If all you can access are the KYZ pulses, you'll need a counter or pulse accumulator. A low-end PLC could do this for you - but finding one that can speak DNP might be more challenging.

I'm pretty sure this little guy can do what you want, but it's probably overkill of one set of KYZ pulses.

It might be simpler and cheaper to replace the meter with one that has DNP output.

Is the meter a standard kW/kWH type and you are getting pulses from the utility or is it a panel meter in your gear?

Alan

The meter that they are using is manufactured by TransData Inc It is a Mark-V, solid state, fully programmable meter. Below are the two model numbers of the meters that they use at our delivery points.
EMS60E09S12SET-04
EMS60E06S12SET-04

The power utility company only let us get the pulses from the two Form C dry contacts on the meter, one Kwh and the other being Kqh.

I have found couple of devices online that counts/records KYZ pulses but neither of them supports DNP protocol.

Thank you.
