Lateral bracing. I have a question on bracing to prevent lateral sway on a pergola. The design is roughly 26 × 24 and a max height of 12'. The top is two heights, one at 10 and one at 12. The central section is the higher with two sides at 10. The longest direction is braced [longitudinally with 45° braces about 5' from the beam and 5' from the column. This provides sound resistance to movement longitudinally. I have no side sway (lateral bracing. The 10" beams and 2" square shade members both run longitudinally and the 6" joists run laterally 18" on center. The whole structure has a bit of 'shift' laterally. How can I brace this movement without installing long 45° diagonal bracing (laterally) between columns. Green line in drawing denotes lateral brace need direction. Thanks for ideas.
