I keep hearing there is a shortage of land surveyors and that the average age of a licensed surveyor is around 60. Has anyone thought about working to get licensed? I could sit for the LSIT or whatever it is called now, but it would be hard for me to get the required 4 years experience to sit for the LS. Does anyone think there will be enough of a shortage of surveyors that they would change requirements to become licensed? Is this worth pursuing?

Today? No. Surveying work is attached at the hip to the development sector, and that sector is still wrecked.

I'm interested to hear opinions from others about where they think the development sector will be in 3 or 5 years, though.

Virtually all professional licenses require experience in order for them to be granted. This is true for doctors, nurses, engineers, accountants, and most othe professional fields. I think it'd be highly unlikely to see an experience requirement waived.

If there truely is a shortage of surveyors, you should have no problem getting hired onto a crew working for a licensed surveyor.
