Landslides in the highway area or road areas. What immediate remedial work can be done to prevent further landslides ?
The soil appears to be saturated in some area. Clayey soil with underlying clay shale bedrock.

Does the highway personnel do specific maintenance for this cases ? Such as horizontal drainage, etc. Any new techniques available ?
You may need to consider exclusion of ground water and to spray concrete on slip scars. These are what we normally do in Hong Kong with volcanic/granitic ground.
The Hong Kong highways maintenance authority is required to effect a yearly slope maintenance programme to repair channels, hard surfacing, clear horizontal drains, etc. They also engage a geotehncial engineer to re-assess the stabilty condition of each road side slope every five years.

I'm facing similar problem too; the eroded slopes are composed of loose rock fragments where turf is inhabitable. Is there any cheaper option other than shotcreting ? the slope is ranging from 1:1 to 1:1.5 at 5 m height with 2 m benching. Water table is minimal in this case.

Thanx in advance

Depending on the terrain i think that a gabion retaining wall will do better than shotcreting. The details of such design can be obtained from different manufactures of gabions. The manufcaturers can even offer you a software assist in designing the retaining wall. In one one of the project they used Maccaferi gabion and the software from the same to design the retaining wall, why dont you contact them.
