Large scale lithotripsy

I am interested to know if there is a technique similar to lithotripsy (a technique that pulverizes kidney stones by passing shock waves through a water-filled tub in which the patient sits) but for pulverizing (converting to sand) submerged calcareous rock at sea (old dead coral reef rocks).

I do not know if there is a set process already developed for this purpose (outside of medical uses), but I imagine that one could be made. The largest setback is the distance from the transducer, and transducer size to generate enough power to set up the complimentary waves to crush your rock. You may have to construct the transducer yourself and work out the given geometries to get the correct combination of pressure waves. Complex problem.

Thank you very much. Distance might not be the major problem because transducer can be placed as near as the rocks permit. The size and the design of the transducer might be the greatest problem. Do you know where I can get information, or anything that can help me?

transducer design is a huge pain. (even in literature. seems the acousticians are a secretive bunch ). I just finished doing a few designs myself, but unfortunately what I did is wayy to lengthy for a post. I would recommend perhaps "Principles of Underwater Sound" by Urick. It is a good starting place. Remember that what you are trying to do is set up sympathetic vibrations in a localized point by the construction of seperate waveforms with enough power and energy to crack your rocks. Unfortunately, I do not know how much other information there is on the net (sorry). If I find something, I'll be sure to drop it by
