Hello All,
I'm starting to investigate a Laser beam process for welding a pressure vessels.
Shell and head thk. = 2mm. MAWP=3BAR. for non-lethal and no-corrosive service. MDMT is 0°C. Vessel is designed and fabricated in accordance with ASME VIII-1 (U-stamped).
1. I would like to know if it is permissible to weld Nozzles and Flanges without any addition of filler metal?
For example: Is it permissible to weld a flange like in Figure 2-4 (6a) without any addition of filler metal?
2. For fittings not exceeding NPS 3, is it permissible to weld the fitting to the vessel shell (or head) from the inside of the vessel?
3. Beside the fact that full qualification of the process is needed, there are any other design requirements for this kind of weld (e.g. RT or PT of the welded joint, etc.)?
Thank you all.
