I am researching the accuracy of laser scanner used in reverse engineering which utilizes triangulation method. Usually a white coating will be sprayed on the specimen before the scanning process to reduce the shininess of the surface which will reduce the laser diffusivity. The coating itself contributes to certain degree of error. Moreover if the surface is not normal to the laser beam the error will be greater. Can anybody tell me the latest available laser scanner using triangulation method and what is the accuracy claimed by the manufacturer? Is there any method to scan without using the coating?

Thank you in advance for sharing your precious time with me.

In reverse engineering the greatest problem is not accuracy-- it is tolerancing. Let's suppose we can measure each data without error -- but since one may be the maximum, the other one the minimum acceptable
value, the tolerancing is more complicated than in the
case of an original design.
