Im doing a senior living facility with 5 washers and 5 dryers. What would you suggest for the sensible/latent load for this room? Basically, does anyone have a good rule of thumb for sensible & latent load per washer/dryer? Should I apply diversity? Thanks

Consult the equipment manufacturer's info.

Depends largely on how the units are made. Most of the waste heat from the dryer will be exhausted, so sensible load will be conducted from the machine body.

Similar with the washers. If they are simply residential style, and cold water is used (as we do here in Florida with ground water temps around 74°F) then the only load is a minor sensible gain from the motor. If there is hot water use, then same rules apply as with the washer. Most of the waste heat will be drained away, leaving only some sensible convection.

Keep your use in mind too when determining required room conditions. For multi family and hi-rise laundry rooms where the room use is not constant, I would consider using the space as a point of exhaust since you have to add makeup ventilation air anyway. Then most of the air movement is exhaust providing the bulk of the cooling, and if the room gets a little warm from time to time, so what?

I would apply diversity to the makeup air and provide 800 cfm (@200 cfm each), the other 200 can come from the corridor. if all 5 dryers are in function, you can bet any door to the room would be opened often.

With all this makeup air I would bet the sensible loads of the equipment would be negligible, as stated above.

I would only provide cooling to cover any solar/exterior load. For some reason in an old age home I can see people just hanging out there, even if not doing laundry.

If the makeup air is coming directly from the outdoors, i should be cooled.
