We are in search of a lead time to manufacture and deliver a 230 kV XLPE cable for underground application?

The informal lead time provided by cable vendors is too wide-ranging from 3 months to a year that is hard to make a preliminary evaluation. The owner is not in the position to provide a purchase order any time soon to get a firm commitment.

If any comments, please let us know.

Considering a lead time of about 6 to 9 months for the 230 kV XLPE cable with customized specification is reasonable. However, now considering the Covid-19 scenario, the variation of lead time between the vendors could be wide, depending on the lock down restrictions in the respective countries.

Not sure how much cable is needed for this job but 3 - 12 months is typical depending on vendor and their order book. Not sure if you did this but I recommend putting out a formal Request For Information (RFI) to the vendors to show the owner is somewhat committed to the job. We have very good luck nailing down manufacturing availability going the with the RFI.
