leak testing diesel pipeline

Dear All,

We have burried pipelines for diesel from our tank farm to different daytanks (boiler, gen sets et. Our EMS auditor want us to conduct leak testing of these pipelines in pre-determined frequency.

What is the best way to leak test diesel pipes? Does nitrogen have negative effect on the system?

Don't use a gas for high pressure testing.

N2 should have no effect on your diesel. After testing, just fill the transfer lines fast enough with diesel to keep the N2 moving ahead and out to the storage tank vent fast enough that it does not have time to entrain into the diesel. If it does, you will get degassing of N2 from the diesel in the storage tank. Should not be a problem, if it sits there long enough to degas before you try running it into the engine fuel lines.
