Hi,

I'm Xeros.

In accordance with para. 5.1.2.2.3.e on API RP 571,
"Amine cracking is most often associated with lean amine services. The pure alkanolamine does not cause cracking. Cracking in rich amine services are most often associated with wet H2S problems."

In this sentence,
What is the definition of pure alkanolamine?

I heard that pure alkanolamine is solid and this is dissolved in water for using in amine unit.

What is the difference between lean amine and pure alkanolamine?

Best regards,

Pure amine has no water. DEA freezes at 60F, so it is shipped with water at 80% DEA in some climates. Other amines feeze at lower temperatures, you can get amine properties online through Dow chemical or Huntsman or any MSDS sheet.

Lean Amine once in the process will have water, some CO2 and H2S disolved or reacted in the solution. The Lean amine will have salts that will not reverse back to amine and the original chamical that donated the Cation (anion or the positve ion H+).
