Hello everyone,
I want to know how the LED lighting market is doing currently. I want to know the following statistics:

1) With what rate LED lighting fixtures are replacing the conventional incandescent/CFLs lighting fixtures?
2) Is the price of LED fixtures going down in time? (for the year 2015 and 2016)
3) What does an average person think about LED lighting? How can it be improved? What is the biggest challenge with LED lighting?

So, can you please provide some link that has these stats? Any Govt agency? Or any article that has these values?

Also, please share your experience and answer these questions if you can. Thanks

LED lighting is well on the way to completely replacing halogens and compact fluorescents. I would be surprised to see compact fluorescents on sale beyond a decade from now.

It will take longer to replace HID (high pressure mercury-metal halide and high pressure sodium) and modern tubular fluorescents (T5s and T8s) with electronic ballasts. There's still a steep cost penalty to the LED replacements with almost no meaningful increase in efficiency offered by the LEDs. The big advantage they provide is less frequent maintenance as well as being instant on/off (unlike the HIDs), but that's only worth money in difficult to access locations like our super-high bay, or pole lights etc.

moltenmetal,

I 100% agree that the big attraction of LED luminaires for large industrial uses with high internal labour costs is the massive reduction on maintenance costs. High power MH lamps don't have a particularly long lifetime, and even the HP sodium types are way short of the LED equivalents.
