How have designers implemented ASHRAE 55-2004 to achieve compliance? Software or manual calculations?

Sometimes both, but some runs and copies of that ASHRAE Thermal Comfort Calculator are usually printed off and subitted with our documents for specific examples, and typical areas of the building. We also design a lot of radiant systems combined with DOAS systems, so we can pretty well automatically comply without very much effort. The key is accurately modeling and determining your perimeter window inside surface temps. Real life data based on thermographic scans can be enlightening.

Do you humidify your buildings GMcD to comply with ASHRAE 55?
I claim free humidification when I use enthalpy wheels.

cry22: yes we'll humidify in the winter up here, but in my climate zone we don't need to dehumidify at all. Generally the passive Heat Recovery is all we need in my area, keep it simple, no moving wheels.

Active humidification was removed from ASHRAE 55. Our climate calls for comfort humidification, which we usually use Enthalpy Wheels to obtain, but it is not a requirement of ASHRAE 55 to humidify.
