Leica edm error

Does anybody have any idea (or has maybe experienced themselves) what might cause an edm error - code 56 on a Leica TC605?
The instrument hasn't been knocked or damaged in any way, It just stopped working.

I fear this error indicates a defect that needs you to send the TC605 in for service.
I don't know all codes by heart, but I think this is either a problem with the EDM electronics or the calmotor. That's the little motor that regulates the amount of return signal to the sensor.
