Will the length of a torsion bar change with angular diflection? If so does anyone know an equasion relating the decrease in length of the bar relative to angular displacement for a 1" round solid bar? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would "guess" that a straight line along the rod becomes a helix of the same length.

I imagine this is related to the increase in OD of a coil spring as it is compressed. This can be calculated. But not by me.
