Can someone tell me how to calculate pipe length in F&D heads and elliptical heads?

I need it in case when pipe is not in head centerline.

Thanks

it's pretty basic a2 + b2 = c2

on f&d c is idr of head
a is (dist from center + 1/2 pipe dia)
solve for b

subtract answer from c and you get drop from IDD of head to tangent line.

then proj of nozzle from tangent line - idd + drop from above

on 2:1 elliptical very similar but different

c is isr of head (not dish rad...but actual isr)
a is same dist from center + 1/2 pipe dia
solve for b

divide b by 2

subtract the answer from the projection of nozzle from tangent line

you probably need to get yourself a copy of
"Pressure Vessel Handbook"

If this little problem had you stumped, then tis book will fill you in on all kinds of layouts and formulas and dimensions of b16.5 flanges and common pipe fittings as well weights volumes and most everything you need to know about the basic building of vessels
