Library features in 2003 1

Is anybody else finding that, if for some reason you want to edit and re-save a library feature in SW 2003, that it will no longer save properly as a library feature? It doesn't put the "L" on the features that you want, and says you have an empty library feature if you try to use it. Doesn't quite sound right. Is there any link between the library feature file and the part file that it is used in?

I solved my own problem by recreating my library feature file from scratch, but it seems to me that you shoul be able to edit it, for one thing, you may not be satisfied with it right off the bat.

I have been working with library features in SW 2003, the last couple of days. I have built, edited, saved and used the features without any problems. I am not sure what you mean by “doesn't put the "L" on the features that you want”. Everything works fine for me.

Thanks for your reply, now I'm really wondering what went wrong, if it isn't a bug in the software. I'll have to try some others to see.

The "L" that I was referring to is the not very distinct L shaped overlay that appears on the icon of the feature in the feature tree, that is selected to be in the library feature.

I tried selecting a feature and saving the file as a library feature file (*.sldlfp) numerous times, rebooting etc. and the only way it would work for me was to reconstruct it from scratch. I had used it 22 times up until something went wrong and somehow I inadvertently saved it with the feature deleted, but not the sketch. After putting the feature back in, it just wouldn't work for me.

I just tried it again. I still do not see an L, I do see what looks like different size books standing up. I followed the help menu instructions on how to do library features. I am sure you did if yours was working. Try grabbing a completely new feature and making a library features of that. If that does not work let me know and I will look further.

I tried two more things, each time starting with a working library feature file.

1. Went into the file and deleted the feature (not the sketch), then recreated the feature. Tried to save it under the same name, overwriting the feature file, with the feature selected, according to directions. It wouldn't save the feature (says the file is empty when I attempt to apply the library feature to a model).

2. Went into the file and added another feature. Tried to save it with the new feature selected (same name again). Once again it wouldn't include the new feature. This time, when applying it to a model, only the original feature is applied to the model.

I am using a computer with an AMD Athalon, and a 3D Labs Oxygen graphics card. Doesn't crash much, only occasionally. Crashed a couple of times yesterday though, after reporting this problem, but didn't seem related.
