License Borrowing

Hello,

What is needed for license borrowing?
How does it work?

I would like to borrow a license from the office and use it at home on the weekends. I have a desktop computer at home running windows 7. I have already setup UGNX5 and it runs OK using an emergency license.

Thanks for the reply.

So does license borrowing only works with laptops?

I tried the instruction on page14 of flexlm.pdf

I highlight the license I want to borrow, select the return date, and click on borrow license.

What happened is it just shows a return date next to the license I borrowed. Where is the license file?

I checked with lmtools and on server status, it was looking for a license file on c:\flexlm\license.dat

I don't have this folder on my C drive so I returned the license, create c:\flexlm folder and tried borrowing again.

License tool does its thing but when I checked the c:\flexlm folder, nothing is in there.

Got to admit Berserk, I'm extremely rusty when it come to the licensing side of things, I run my license only on my laptop, I’ve not had to worry about sharing for a long time...

Hopefully you'll get an answer from another correspondent – If not speak to support, they’ll talk you through it.

license borrow:
1. you must have the borrowing option in your license file
- borrowing is available since nx4
2. If you have the borrowing option there is a tab in licencing option tool .
3.on the client you select the bundle on the first tab, got the second tab
select the bundle and the features you what to borrow, select the borrow time and select the borrow button.
On the licenserver an borrow file is created. On the client something is written to the registry

You have to be connected to the network that your license server is on with the borrowing machine in order to borrow a license.
Once you have borrowed the license you can disconnect from the network and run NX.
I'm not totally up to date on licensing, but there used to be bug when it came to returning licenses early, they would not be returned.
The way to get a licensed borrowed for your home mavhine is through a VPN connection that allows your computer to be seen by the corporate network. But if you can get VPN and you are at home, why borrow a license at all, just use a license over the VPN connection. I ram UG V18 and Wildfire this way for 3 years from home.
