Trying to startup up ProE on a machine that is requesting a floating license from the FlexLM server. I get the error "License Request Failed for Function: 26" and ProE closes.
Anyon ehave any clues how to troubleshoot this ? Are there any "FlexLM CLIENT" utilities to help with this ?

I would first make sure you can ping the license server. If not you have basic networking problems you need to fix first. If you can ping then I would try running ptcstatus to see the license availability.

I can ping without problem. I look on the license server and everything looks OK, Is there any cliient side utils that I can run?
I did re-do the PTCSetup and all seems to go OK. But when I start up I still get the same error.

If you go through the setup process to the 3rd or 4th tab, there is a checkbox for Additional license configutations.
Check that box and the next tab has the startup settings.
Click on the 1st (probably only) license type, and click Edit.
This will show you all available licenses & startup extensions - one of these is function 26.

The quickest way to find out which is the one to drop is to create multiple license configurations, dropping 1 item each time.
When you have finished setup and open ProE, you will get to choose which configuration you want to start with, so you can go through them all to find what you need to drop.

Which version of Pro E are you trying to run?

WF3 and WF4 cannot run with a WF2 license server.

Failing that, try restarting the license server. We have 11 floating licenses here and occasionally we find that the server fails to release some licenses when Pro E is shut down. When all the licenses are used up, we get the message you're seeing.

Running PTC status shows some designers using 2 or more of the licenses. Restarting the server resets the licenses.

Is it just your machine that wont run or are there others that cannot connect? Is the server local to your machine, i,e, in the same building? If not, try putting the servers IP address in as the server name. We have people in China, India and the US that use our license server and they have to use the server IP address to get access.

Have you checked that the server details match the name in the the license text file from PTC. If they matcch the *.lic file will not work.

This is all assuming that you have a real copy of Pro Engineer. Hacking the license server software is often unsuccessful.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the suggestions.... It was the dang firewall that was on the server that was causing the problem... I don't know why I didn't look at that sooner.
