Can some one advice me the expected life of Sch-80 Black Steel for chilled water piping system.

Until it corrodes through.

seriously, it depends on environmental conditions. 5 years in acideous water, 100 years when you take care of corrosion.

Thanks Herrkaleun,

Can you please provide me any document reference for 100 years life of blackk steel, schedule 40 pipe.

no one will be able to tell you how long it take to corrode through. the pipe also may leak before corroding through if it is structurally stressed and the corrosion just weakens it enough.

the difference between schedule 40 and 80 is more thickness, which gives you more time to reach that point. but more important is how you treat your water and what environment it is in. Run a lot of hot saltwater with a lot of oxygen through the pipe and embed it in a low pH environment and you see what I mean.

Like car sold in California won't rust in 30 years... take the same car to the rust belt and it will show rust after 10 years or sooner.

Why would you use Sch 80 for a chilled water system? Standard Weight is the norm for sizes > 2", with copper for smaller sizes.
