I wonder if somebody could help me with this. WE are going to add 8" joists above a room to place the Air Handler there and create a working area for the HVAC people. The span of the joists is 8'. The wall at one end of the joists are 1hr fire rated. What is the best way to support the joists without breaking the 1 hr rating? Is it okay to add a chanel to the side of the studs in the 1hr wall and then attach the joists with a clip angle?

Thak you for any help you can give

I would check with your local code official. In my area, we can't use the firewall for bearing purposes. You might have to put a another wall in front of it and bear your studs on that.
