Hello. A developer has asked me to verify if the lighting design for a condo parking lot is sufficient under IES regulations. He has sent two different choices for lighting fixtures and a .ies file for each one. I am supposed to run these files and make my decision. I learned that there needs to be 2.4 footcandle average, .6 minimum, and a 4:1 uniformity ratio for these fixtures. My trouble is that I had trouble opening/and using the free software I have downloaded for lighting design, that can open .ies files. Any recommendations as to a good free program to d/l to try and figure out which fixtures adhere to the IES regulations? I was able to open one of the files, but did not undertand all the information presented and how to analyze the results. Any advice will help, as I am new to lighting design. Thank you.

I would suggest that you either work with a vendor who has the software necessary, or hire a consultant who has the software and knows how to use it. Good point-by-point lighting calculation software does not come cheap.
