I have a pump circuit that has 2 sets of lightning arrestors and 2 sets of surge capacitors on it. Does anyone have any information on whether or not the 2 sets could limit the effectiveness or interfere with the proper operation of one or both sets?

I'm no expert but my gut feel is that two can't be worse than one.

The only caveat... the surge arrester effectiveness depends heavily upon being close to the terminals of the motor (not as important for surge caps). If one is farther than the other, that one may not be as effective.

Some good information on this subject can be found here:

1.) NFPA- 780 Standard for the installation of Lightning Protection Devices.
2.) IEEE Std 142-1991
3.) IEEE Std 1100-1999
4.) has very good resources on this topic
