I am looking for resources regarding structural damage to a home from a lightning strike. The home is wood constructed, two stories, and in the south. I am seeing very little char. I am uncertain if all the observable damage is from a lightning strike.

Thanks.

I am not sure either .. My first impression is, ( as per the first picture ) metal cladding frame is not grounded . The metal frame parts , metal wall cladding need to be grounded for lightning and electrical discharge protection.

Pls look your local fire protection code .

Use it up, wear it out;
Make it do, or do without.

My 2 cents...

All it takes is a little water running down there with a few salts and you make a great conductor. If the lightning followed this path initially or for the full discharge then you might not see any charring. But you would get water turning into super heated steam in seconds and an steam explosion.

As posted above, when I see damage in trees, it looks like the energy from the lightning vaporizes the water in the wood and blows it apart. I don't recall seeing any "char" from burning.
