I have a project just going to construction and the architect has specified that exposed burnished block be lightweight, instead of normal weight cmu as designed. I have checked the wall designs and everything still appears okay. I have reviewed the codes, but I still feel that there is something else I should be checking. Can anyone offer any further advice on changing the normal weight cmu to lightweight cmu?

Lightweight units have different fire resistant ratings and the lightweight unit may be part of a rated assembly... Also less dead load to the foundations...

Light-weight units will also affect the strength of any fasteners for signs, studs, decorations or any other part of the exterior that needs to be fastened to the cmu.
