This is actually a several part question. I have been working with Solid Works/COSMOS FEA on a valve body. I have a stress concentration at the intersection of the inlet and valve body ID. I set out to see if it was possible to liniarise the stress across the cross section. Unfortunately for me, COSMOS does not include this function. I found a way around this by taking an 1/8 section of the valve, using the split surface function and mesh control to set the distances beween nodes then manually picking each of the points to find the stress at the nodes. This brough up the question as to what I could do if the cross section I wanted to liniarise was not on a plane of symmetry? I talked a friend experienced in FEA and he informed me that there was some debate as to methods used to liniarise a cross section that was in 3D. I am curious as to what the debate is and as to the different approches but I have been unable to locate any documentation on either subject.
