Linking cell format

This might be something simple to do, but I cannot figure out how to do it. I know how to link cells so where the information will be updated or inserted in another sheet. However, I do not know how to link the format of the cell.
This is basically what I'm trying to do. I have "sheet 1" being populated with dates. Some of these dates are in red type and some are in black type. There is no specific conditional formatting that I can use because the person populating these cells decide whether the date will be red or not. When I go to link the red type dates in "sheet 2", they come out in black type. I have tried to paste link and paste format, but that doesn't work. Is there some way that I can get this done? Thanks for any input.

not without writing some macro (vba code).

summarizing code logic is:
1) to copy and paste the formats simple as that or
2) determine certain conditions as to whether or not linked cell is to be formatted.

have fun!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I found the simplest way of doing this is creating a macro to copy and paste the dates. Also, in order to get it to update automatically when you open the workbook (which basically runs the macro whenever you open the workbook), I renamed the macro I created "AUTO_OPEN".
