linking computers via VHF channel

I would like to link two computers using a pair of VHF mobile radios to pass data. this requires building a circuit that will interface with the computer's com port, perform the data conversion suitable for VHF and interface with the VHF radio.

I'll be grateful for any tips/advice on this subject and any links for tech site with suitable reading materials to make a start.
