Dear sirs,

As part of a distillation column order I have asked for water tests on the proposed vendor distibutors.

In kisters book he quotes a Moore and Rukovena quality index for liquid distribors. Do column vendors normally measures there distributors v's this test.

What are common results for good distribors... v packing types..

Should the packing vendor advise on this or should we state we require..

I've see a vendor perform a test (i was at there shop for another reason).. but i dont know how they measure it..

Recommended for you

After internal installation into the column in a liquid distributor over a packing, to have a homogeneous liquid distribution, the levelling of the distributor is very important. Any un-levelness can reduce tower performance especially at low flow rates. Water testing the distributor after assembly is strongly recommended

Each of the liquid distributors must be subject to a quality test with water, witnessed in shop by the customer or his representative.

Points to be checked are: Quality manufacture, tightness, distribution accuracy and throughput.

0707,

Thanks for you post..

THerefore in terms of QA for a shop test.

Validate the following is sensible

Distributor meets the following:
> Quoted rate drip points per meter. (through the flow range)
> Does not overflow at design rates (Adjusted for density)
> meets drip rate an min flow.

Would you specify a moores distribution number or would you ask the manufacturer to advise what is required for his packing to meet our NTS requirements ?
