Hi fellows

I have just stated reseach on behaviour of metals in thixoforming. I am facing the following problems
1) heat calcualtion equation and relationship of heat of fusion during cooling to a temperature to get a certain fraction of solid in melt(usually equations deal with moving solid boundry from mold surface to the centre not with a two phae homogeneous system).
2) the way to determin the solid fraction in melt at any temperature pratically.
3) effect of alloying elements on the heat of fusion of the base metal (e.g. Cu, Mn, Zn in Al metal)

can any body help me in this regard.

You really should perform a thorough review of scientific journals in order to answer these questions. There has been an extraordinary amount of research performed over the past 10 years to understand semi-solid/rheological behavior of metals. Al and Mg are the most researched metals, but Zn and some others have been investigated as well. FYI, the Scheil equation is frequently used for determining solid fraction in computational programs such as CALPHAD. I recommend you go to a good University library and search their resources, but the following site is a good starting point:

Thanks for reply. I will check the mentioned site.
I have gone through many papers but they deal basically with the shear behaviour or with the filling behaviour in a mold etc. But I am going to start from the preparation of feed stock from semi-solid state instead of reheating a feedstock and study only deformation or filling behaviour. Many researchers have mentioned the initial step but not concentrated on heat evolution during partial solidification. One russian author has mentioned in his book about the effect of alloying elements and range of temperature on heat of fusion of base metal.
