I have been using DesignMaster's AutoCAD add-in for about 6 years. I love their software, but they stopped developing the HVAC portion of their software and are only focusing on their electrical package (I guess they have been in this mode for over 10 years!!).

Anyway, does anyone have a recommended alternate software for load and design? I use Wright-Soft for residential projects, but I do not like it very much and do not want to use it for commercial applications.

Duct layout and calcs can be done in Revit.
For loads I use Trane Trace. some people use Carrier HAP.

Thank you for your response :)

All of my architects provide me with AutoCAD drawings - I provide them with pdf, so it is not a problem to switch to Revit from that sharing standpoint. Do I understand correctly that it is very easy to import an AutoCAD file into Revit? And did you also consider using AutoCAD MEP and rule it out?

you would have to build the model in Revit. you can use the dwg as a background (and also PDF) to assist in that.

AutoCAd is like MS DOS, Revit is like windows 10. Very different things.

No offense to the architects you work with, but in 2020 they could stop using fax machines. they are doing themselves, their clients and all the people they work with a huge disservice by using outdated technology. Yes, a horse an buggy also gets you everywhere, just with more effort.
