Just wondering if anyone had an opinion on what is the most correct way to combine snow drift loads in ASCE 7-05/10. I know that they need not be combined with unbalanced, pattern loading, etc., but what about wind? should you run combinations with wind and snow drift when checking members, or simply do a D + C + S + DRIFT?

thanks!

The ASCE 7 load combinations are indicated in Chapter 1.

Drifting is a part of the snow load, S, unless specifically excluded as you referenced with unbalanced snow.

ASCE 7-05 specifically states that load combos 4 (D + 0.75L + 0.75S) and 6 (D + 0.75 (W or 0.7E) + 0.75L + 0.75S) shall be taked as either the flat roof snow load or sloped roof snow load ie no drift.
