Load option vs reference only components

I have a problem regarding reference only components, hoping someone can offer some suggestions. I am running NX7.5 with TC 8 integration.

I have an assembly that was created while working with the load option titled "working". Within the assembly, I have a sub-assembly that is basically for reference and I do not want the sub to show up on my BOM so I set the sub assembly to reference only (r-click=> properties=> select component is reference only). Making the sub reference only gives me the desired result on the BOM (the reference sub is excluded from the BOM). If I re-open the main assembly with a "working" load option, everything seems to be fine.

For a variety of reasons, I need to open the assembly with a precise load option. Everything opens fine except for the "reference only" sub-assembly. I get an error that says the sub is an invalid object. It still shows up in the assembly navigator but appears to be suppressed or hidden. Attempts to load this sub with the precise load option have failed.

Can anyone explain what's going on here or offer a suggestion? Basically what I want to do is have a sub in my assembly that does not show up on my BOM. I would like to be able to open the main assembly with both working & precise load options...
