local heat treatment

We want to perform local heat tratment of nozzle dia 240mm thk 47mm on the shell dia 6000mm thk 40mm (mat. SA516-70). Because of large diameter we do not want to use circumferential band, only local heating. Have you any bad or good experience in local heat treatment.

Yes, we have, and it is endorsed by the National Board Inspection Code in 2006. If this is new construction, you are stuck with using a circumferential band.
