Hi,

I'm doing a local loads calculation to PD5500 : 2009 on a 3" nozzle/shell attachment.

I need to know how to calculate :

Q = the radial thrust applied at nozzle (in N)
S = the shear load applied at nozzle (in N)
M = the external moment applied at nozzle (in N/mm2)

is there an equivalent to wrc-107?

the loads are furnished by piping stress engineers and the fabricator does design to meet the loads.

Hi gbrquh,

The loads come from the attached piping/equipment, but for design (when the loads may not be fully defined) people generally have a set of values to use as a basis for the vessel design.

Check out the discussion in thread292-129476. It was a few years ago, but I would say the same things again.

Regards,
John
