Hi:

I have an older 3hp repulsion motor. Whem starting it, with or without load, the rotor locks. When I give it slight push, it works normal. I checked the armature and the 4 brushes and they were clean. Since the brushes are movable, I tried them in different positions to no avail. The winding on the rotor looks normal with no discoloration.

Thanks in advance for your input,

Windbug

Either a shorted commutator, shorted windings or a shorting bracelet hanging up in the shorting position may cause similar symptoms. Check the linkage on the shorting bracelet first.
