Locking a Drawing

Hi,

I have a drwing whose model has creeped through the system and been altered. Fortunately the drawings has not been updated (and will hopefully remain that way as an old revision).

Is there any way I can set the default options of one particular drawing that upon opening it will allways be opened "VIEW ONLY" & keep it as a rapid draft? To stop others loading the model etc.

Click File\Open and before you open it you should see a box in the lower left corner "Convert to Rapiddraft". It will load the most recent model associated to that drawing. You then have to RMB the file name in the FM. Then unselect "Automatic view update" and save the file. Then next time you open it it will be Rapiddraft.

This is listed in the help file. Type "Rapiddraft" under the Index tab in the help and click on "convert".

Otherwise you can't save it to rapiddraft without opening it, updating it then saving it.

yeah this was what I had been endeavouring to do.

Basically it was an stuff up and the original model was altered - new version not created etc when it should have been.

I had hoped there might be a way to ensure it was only opened "view only" which still shows the correct info.

Not sure you want to go this route, but have you considered saving your SLDDRW files as PDF files? That would definately lock things down to "view only".

I have seen bad things happen with this program but I think it was a combination of the users SW and the fact the company didn't list it's true requirements, but you might want to check this program out

Are you in a position to request an older version of the model file from your IT department's backups? Maybe you could do this before making your RapidDraft drawing.

As far as the PDF's go, I am a big fan of them. I don't believe CAD data is suitable to be published on a comany-wide basis. The PDF of a drawing is a published and controlled document, while the CAD data is treated like the negative of a photo, archived and protected, but not available for public use.

Am also a big fan of PDF documents too - think that will be my solution to lock it in place. Using PDF995.

But before that might go a huntin' for the back up files...we are a small company so we are all our own IT guys ;-)
